Greece has been a maritime nation since antiquity. The legacy is alive in the modern era. Shipping is one of the pillars of the Greek economy contributing around 7.5\% to Greece’s gross domestic product. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the once thriving Greek ship-building and repair industry. Greek shipyards once worked two or three shifts a day, but workers are now lucky, if they get 30 shifts a year. As late as the 1980s, workers in Perama would work two or three shifts a day to meet demand.

The Greek Section of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) organizes a Symposium to discuss ways through which our yards will come out of their dire straits and contribute again to our economy. The Symposium will take place at Evgenidion Foundation Auditorium, on June 13th 2016, commencing at 14:00 with free entrance. A variety of speakers-stakeholders will talk about the past, the present and the future. The theme of the Symposium is the resurrection of Greek Shipyards.

Dr. Kostas Andriosopoulos, President of the Hellenic Association for Energy Economics, will participate as a speaker at the "2nd Eurasian Natural Gas Infrastructure Conference" that will take place on 22 & 23 of June 2016 in Athens.

4ο ΝΑΥΤΙΚΟ ΣΑΛΟΝΙ ΠΑΡΑΔΟΣΙΑΚΩΝ ΣΚΑΦΩΝ ΠΟΡΟΣ, 19 – 22 ΜΑΙΟΥ 2016

Οι επισκέπτες θα μπορούν να θαυμάσουν από κοντά ξύλινα ελληνικά χειροποίητα σκαριά που επέζησαν στο πέρασμα του χρόνου, όπως Καραβόσκαρα, Τρεχαντήρια, Περάματα, Λίμπερτι, καθώς και τις παλιές αλλά πανέμορφες βάρκες που υπάρχουν στον Πόρο.  Όλα τα σκαριά που θα είναι στο Ναυτικό Σαλόνι αποτελούν μέρος της μεγάλης πολιτιστικής και ναυτικής ιστορίας του τόπου μας.

 

Ταυτόχρονα με το Ναυτικό Σαλόνι έχουν προγραμματιστεί μία σειρά από εκδηλώσεις όπως εκθέσεις φωτογραφίας και ζωγραφικής καθώς και  μουσικές βραδιές. Συγκεκριμένα την Παρασκευή 20 Μαΐου θα εμφανιστούν οι αδελφοί Καμίτσι, γνωστοί ναυπηγομαραγκοί και παραδοσιακοί μουσικοί από την Πάτμο, ενώ το Σάββατο 21 Μαΐου όπως κάθε χρόνο θα δώσει το παρόν στις εκδηλώσεις του Ναυτικού Σαλονιού η Κυριακή Σπανού και ο Νίκος Οικονομίδης με το υπέροχο βιολί του.

Ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον έχει η έκθεση του γνωστού φωτογράφου Robert McCabe με θέμα ‘‘Αιγαιοπελαγίτικα καΐκια’’ (1954-1964) που φιλοξενείτε ήδη στην Citronne Gallery του Πόρου και θα είναι ανοικτή καθ όλη την διάρκεια του Ναυτικού Σαλονιού. 

Ξεχωριστή θα είναι και η παρουσία των έργων της καραβογράφου Χρύσας Δελαπόρτα με θέμα ‘‘ταξιδεύοντας για Πόρο’’.

Μπορεί να επιβιώσει η τέχνη εκτός των κλασικών, αναμενόμενων χώρων; Και μπορεί να συμβιώσει με το δίκαιο;

Το δικηγορικό γραφείο Αλέξανδρος Κασσανδρινός & Συνεργάτες παρουσιάζει το project {Just/Art}* στο πλαίσιο των οποίων θα φιλοξενεί διαφορετικές μορφές τέχνης στον χώρο του.

Όπως και ο τίτλος του, το project {Just/Art}* έχει διπλή ερμηνεία, αφενός εξετάζει τον ρόλο των χώρων εργασίας ως σημείων τέχνης, και αφετέρου τη σχέση μεταξύ τέχνης και δικαίου: Πώς δηλαδή επικοινωνεί το κοινό με την τέχνη, όταν αυτή δεν βρίσκεται σε αναμενόμενους χώρους, όπως μια γκαλερί ή η αίθουσα μίας πινακοθήκης; Πώς μετασχηματίζεται ένας χώρος εργασίας όταν εισβάλλει η τέχνη σε αυτόν;

Σε ποια σημεία το δίκαιο και η τέχνη συμπίπτουν; Πότε λειτουργούν συμπληρωματικά και πότε βρίσκονται σε αντιπαράθεση; Τι ρόλο διαδραματίζει η τέχνη στην αναζήτηση της κοινωνικής και πολιτικής δικαιοσύνης και πώς το δίκαιο επηρεάζει τις εκφάνσεις της τέχνης;

Το {Just/Art}* φιλοδοξεί να προκαλέσει έναν διάλογο γύρω από αυτά τα ερωτήματα και να γεννήσει ερεθίσματα σε σχέση με τα διασταυρούμενα μονοπάτια της τέχνης και του δικαίου.

Το project ξεκινά την Πέμπτη 2 Ιουνίου στις 8 μ.μ. με την εικαστική έκθεση του Στρατή Ταυλαρίδη σε εικαστική επιμέλεια του Ηριδανού Τσιριγκούλη. Δουλεμένα με την τεχνική του paper cut, τα διάτρητα και εύθραυστα έργα του, αντί να αλλοιώσουν το ύφος του δικηγορικού γραφείου, ενσωματώνονται σε αυτό συνυπάρχοντας με τα καθημερινά αντικείμενα του χώρου εργασίας, ενώ παράλληλα λειτουργούν ως μία αναφορά στα ήδη υπάρχοντα έργα, υπενθυμίζοντας τον πρωταρχικό ρόλο του δικαίου.

The shipping markets have started 2016 in a way no-one really expected.  Dry bulk earnings and values hit multi-year lows in the first quarter, but now seem to be stabilizing; crude tankers continued to make great cash flow but asset prices have not reflected this and equities have not been rewarded; other shipping sectors are being affected disconcertingly from the low oil price and uncertainty in demand and supply prospects.  A difficult time indeed for shipping and the financiers and investors of shipping.   But .... are we at a turning point?

• Will tanker owners continue to cash cow great cash flow, irrespective of asset values?  
• Will new finance enter the industry from private and public sources?
• What will be the prospects for the next 24 months? 
• How will the Greek owners remain the leaders in the field and what strategy will they pursue?

We are pleased to invite you to attend our eighth technical meeting for the 2015-2016 season, during which Mr. Panos Zachariadis, Technical Director at Atlantic Bulk Carriers Management Ltd., Greece will speak on the subject of:

"Gap Analysis Harmonized CSR and Goal Based Standards - The IMO Findings and IACS' proposed Corrective Actions"   The presentation will discuss the results of the IMO audit of the recently unveiled harmonized common structural rules by the IACS societies. The scope of the audit was compliance of the rules with the principles and criteria outlined by the Goal Based Standards (or rules on how to make the rules). The speaker will address the deficiencies found by the rules which came into force on July 1st 2015. More importantly he will rigorously address the application of goal based standards and principles in a manner that results in value added enhancement of the structural integrity and robustness of the future new-buildings. The rules for the design and construction standards of bulk carriers and oil tankers shall be verified as conforming to the Tier I goals and Tire II functional requirements (MSC 296(87)). Naval architects dealing with ship design and construction either on owner's side or classification are urged to attend this presentation since it goes inside the rules and describes what is not right. This will help them to avoid surprises in the future. The speaker, besides his eloquence, has the advantage that he was personally involved with the IMO GBS from the start and followed closely the audit/verification report.
