"Gap Analysis Harmonized CSR and Goal Based Standards - The IMO Findings and IACS' proposed Corrective Actions"
The presentation will discuss the results of the IMO audit of the recently unveiled harmonized common structural rules by the IACS societies. The scope of the audit was compliance of the rules with the principles and criteria outlined by the Goal Based Standards (or rules on how to make the rules). The speaker will address the deficiencies found by the rules which came into force on July 1st 2015. More importantly he will rigorously address the application of goal based standards and principles in a manner that results in value added enhancement of the structural integrity and robustness of the future new-buildings. The rules for the design and construction standards of bulk carriers and oil tankers shall be verified as conforming to the Tier I goals and Tire II functional requirements (MSC 296(87)). Naval architects dealing with ship design and construction either on owner's side or classification are urged to attend this presentation since it goes inside the rules and describes what is not right. This will help them to avoid surprises in the future. The speaker, besides his eloquence, has the advantage that he was personally involved with the IMO GBS from the start and followed closely the audit/verification report. |
