Το λιμάνι της Κυλλήνης πρωτοπορεί και εγκαινιάζει την Πέμπτη 20 Δεκεμβρίου 2018 στις 10.30, την πρώτη εγκατάσταση ηλεκτροδότησης πλοίων από ξηρά στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο, διασυνδέοντας το επιβατηγό οχηματαγωγό πλοίο FIOR DI LEVANTE της LEVANTE FERRIES.

Το πρωτοποριακό  αυτό έργο, το οποίο υλοποιήθηκε στα πλαίσια του Ευρωπαϊκού συγχρηματοδοτούμενου προγράμματος elemed, συμβάλλει τα μέγιστα στη μείωση της ατμοσφαιρικής ρύπανσης καθώς και στον εκσυγχρονισμό του λιμένα, ανοίγοντας τον δρόμο για περαιτέρω νέες καινοτόμες εφαρμογές και σε άλλα ελληνικά λιμάνια, μετατρέποντάς αυτά σε περιβαλλοντικά φιλικούς θαλάσσιους κόμβους.

Με αφορμή τα εγκαίνια της εγκατάστασης, διοργανώνεται εκδήλωση με τίτλο «Η Ανατολική Μεσόγειος αποκτά μειωμένο περιβαλλοντικό αποτύπωμα στο λιμάνι της Κυλλήνης», με τη συμμετοχή εκπροσώπων θεσμικών φορέων και εταίρων του προγράμματος elemed.

Σχετικά με τη Δράση elemed

Η Δράση elemed (Electrification in the Eastern Mediterranean) προωθεί τη χρήση της ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας ως ναυτιλιακό καύσιμο, αποσκοπώντας να μειώσει σημαντικά το περιβαλλοντικό αποτύπωμα της ναυτιλίας στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο. Το πρόγραμμα, το οποίο συγχρηματοδοτείται από την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση, υλοποιεί μελέτες για την εγκατάσταση υποδομών ηλεκτροδότησης ελλιμενισμένων πλοίων σε τρεις χώρες (Ελλάδα, Κύπρο, Σλοβενία) και σε τέσσερα λιμάνια κατά μήκος του Νότιο-Ανατολικού θαλάσσιου διαδρόμου (Κόπερ, Κυλλήνη, Πειραιάς, Λεμεσός), περιορίζοντας δραστικά τον θόρυβο και τους αέριους ρύπους, ιδιαίτερα στις αστικές περιοχές πλησίον των λιμένων.  Στα πλαίσια του elemed,  θα πραγματοποιηθεί η πρώτη υποδομή ηλεκτροδότησης πλοίων στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο, στο Λιμάνι της Κυλλήνης.
